Collaborative Agreement for a Multicentre, International Study on Orang Asli Health and Lifeways Project

FPMPAM/DRSforALL have already signed a collaborative agreement for a multicentre, international study on Orang Asli Health and Lifeways Project.

The centres involved are Department of Anthropology, University of California, Santa Barbara, USA, DRSforAll/FPMPAM, Department of Parasitology, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse, Toulouse, France and Department of Anthropology, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, USA.

This study involves aims to:

  1. Investigate how and why lifestyles are changing among the Orang Asli.
  2. Investigate how lifestyle changes are affecting health and NCCD risk among the Orang Asli, focusing particularly on NCCDs related to metabolic dysregulation (e.g., obesity, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes) and musculoskeletal degeneration (e.g., osteoarthritis, osteoporosis).

In each community, biomedical screening will be done by the medical team of DRSforALL and is scheduled to coincide with visits made by outreach clinics.

In addition, DRSforALL will also conduct additional studies to measure the specific impact of the parameters .
